Veszprém – Kiel pregame statements

On Wednesday, Telekom Veszprém will host the German champion THW Kiel in the EHF Champions League in the Veszprém Arena. Before the clash, we asked our head coach and some players about their expectations.

David Davis: It is going to be a tough match, and Kiel is coming from two losses against Barca. We also lost against Aalborg but we are still fighting for the first position. We must beat them at home. In Kiel we were really close, and had our chances, so now we would like to close the circle by beating them at home, to feel strong again. We want to start this month really good, which is going to be a really good month. We want to start the game well.

Manuel Strlek: The last two games against Kiel were really hard, but really exciting for the Fans to watch. It is bad that we cannot play in front of our Supporters in our own Arena. We will give our best, because this game will be really important. It will be a direct fight for the second place in the group. I think we must show really good handball if we want to win.

Kentin Mahé: We are starting to get a better picture of our team. This game will be a very good test for the semifinal of the Final4. We want to be, as far on top of the group as possible, therefore we must win this game. It will be a tough opponent to play against. I enjoyed watching our last game on TV while I was out with COVID. Despite our Fans not being here, I still hope that we can offer them a good match.

Márton Székely: This will be our last encounter with Kiel before the Final4 and we would like to leave good impressions in ourselves and them as well, which can be a good thing for the semifinal. We know that it will be really hard to play in an empty hall, because we have already experienced it against Aalborg. We would like our Fans to be with us, in our soul, on this game too.
