Kentin Mahé has been dealing with injury for a long time now, and his return to the court is still to be decided. We asked him about the injury, the therapy he is doing and his return to the court.

 

 

After the game against Rabotnik I had an MRI examination and the opinion of the doctor of the French national team, who saw the pictures, was that I have a split in the patellar tendon, which is very painful. They also said that I have had it for weeks before; I do not know when it actually happened. They took a decision, consulting the medical team of Veszprém, that I should undergo PRP treatment, where they withdraw your own blood, put it in a machine which extracts the plasma and inject it into the injured body part. It should enhance healing in my tendon. I had a three weeks break, and after the national team break, I should have started training with the team. It was not possible because I still had a lot of pain. The pain got weaker a week ago, so I started to train with the team. Let’s say I am around 70% of my total abilities. I still have pain but I can do much more than before.

 

 

Now, six weeks have passed and the national team doctors asked me to go back to France for a checkup. They would like to show my knee to a knee specialist in Paris. Tomorrow I am going to see this surgeon in Paris and he is going to give a status on my knee. For the approval of PRP treatment, I am grateful for Telekom Veszprém’s medical staff that they agreed on this, because it was our common goal to be back on court as soon as possible. I think it was the time to do it. My knee is getting better but I need an opinion of a surgeon so I can know if it is dangerous to continue to play, or it is safe to start playing with this injury and pain. I hope to be back as soon as possible.

 

It is hard to say an exact date when I am going to be back for a match. I am back in training, which is a good sign. I work with Marija Lojanica, our physical coach, everyday. She is doing a really great job with me and it is getting better and better. I am just looking forward to be back with the team again.
