Knockout stage of man’s handball Champions League begins again. Since the 2002 defeat in Magdeburg BEK, Veszprém fans are waiting that their favourite squad play in the final. However, it is even more difficult because of the changes. Although, there was a semifinal back then but Final Four is in another dimension. Fortunately, MKB-MVM Veszprém can be certain about it now. So the Hungarian champion has been in a better position in this system and in this line-up.

The most important rule in this tournament is that those teams which take the clashes seriously get reward. Getting a relatively weaker team as opponent basically means the qualification to the best 8. Coach Carlos Ortega’s team took the chance and did everything on the regular game so that they could wait positively for the draw next week.

First, they obviously have to have the rematch against the Spanish La Rioja. The Hungarian Champion is expected to play in the same level, with the same pace and in the same condition. However, after reaching such a level, it is hard to maintain motivation but the team of Veszprém knows that they are playing in such circumstances where they cannot be less dynamic. Moreover, each clash is a great opportunity for teambuilding and it is really important since the hardest part is yet to come. Veszprém go four gold project is turning to the finish line.

There is still something to highlight. Gergő Iváncsik is playing his 603rd game in Veszprém jersey so he got to the top of the list overtaking István Csoknyai. It is an incredible number and achievement. Congratulation, Geri!
