Foreshadow: Szeged – Veszprém

Telekom Veszprém continues the K&H League with the Hungarian derby against championship runner-up MOL-Pick Szeged on Thursday at 19:00. The game will be broadcasted live by M4 Sport.

We usually meet Szeged four or five times a season, but last year we hosted them only once. Before the pandemic broke out they paid a visit to Veszprém Arena last December on the 7^th. The game was pretty equal and brought a tough and manly fight, with a 15:15 draw. The top scorer of the “Építők” on this game was Manuel Strlek with seven goals, while from the opposition Jorge Maqueda and Bogdan Radivojevic both scored six times.

Our opponent fell for the pandemic really early in the beginning of the season, and could hardly play any games. In the Hungarian championship Szeged played nine games so far, out of which they won eight matches and lost one, to much surprise, against Csurgó, 30:33. In their last game they travelled to Eger, where they achieved a confident 21:41 victory. The top scorer of Szeged in the domestic league is Bogdan Radivojevic with 59 goals.

Szeged did not play many games in the Champions League either. So far, they were present on six games, from which they won twice and lost four times. They managed to beat Meshkov Brest and Elverum, while losing to Kielce, Porto, Flensburg and Mashkov Brest in away. The top scorer of the team in the CL is Bence Bánhidi with 22 goals.

There was not so huge movement in Szeged this summer. Borut Mackovsek signed from Veszprém, and Dániel Kecskés arrived from NEKA, with Stefan Sunajko returning from loan and leaving to Tatabánya immediately. Besides him, Jorge Maqueda and Alen Blazevic left the club as well, so did Martin Nagy, who will play on loan in Valur Reykjavík.

Telekom Veszprém’s last game was played against Gyöngyös, more than 10 days ago. The team has been touched by the wind of defeat, as they could only win the game in the last second, with Lékai’s goal.
